WiCCD Celebrates 4th Anniversary with A Fireside Chat with Justices Pemberton and Woodley of the OCJ – Feb 12 2026

What a wonderful, warm evening celebrating the start of our 5th year in operation as WiCCD Women in Canadian Criminal Defence.

Big shout-out to WiCCD Exec member Sweta Tejpal for co-ordinating and hosting this event together with support from our Admin team, including the point person for this event, Amirah Farooq.

We are indebted to our guests, Justice Shauna Pemberton and Justice Alayna Janai Vivienne Woodley.

Women In Canadian Criminal Defence was honoured to have such distinguished guests joining us for this special occasion.

These are very trying times for the criminal defence bar, women defence lawyers and in particular for our younger, racialized members.

Role models like these two amazing Judges motivate our membership and keep us going every day.

Justices Pemberton and Woodley inspire us every day to do our best and keep showing up.

The administration of justice is enriched by and we are so lucky to have both on the Bench.

For more information on this (now past) event and the Judges’ bios, here is an earlier blog entry
