Justice for Soli Movement holds 9th Annual Vigil Commemorating the Tragic Beating Death of Soleiman Faqiri -December 15 2025

Last night, On December 15, 2025, I was honoured but saddened of course, to speak among giants like Senator Kim Pate, at the virtual Vigil held by the Justice for Soli Movement marking the 9th anniversary Soleiman’s death.

Still nothing from the Ford government that acknowledges the tragedy of this death. No apology nor have the 57 recommendations from the Inquest in which I was counsel to the Empowerment Council two years ago have been implemented.

You can watch the Press Conference held to address the unforgivable delays held at Queen’s Park here:

It’s on FaceBook I believe: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&v=2559130794456013

At the same time CBC covers today some legal issues around mental health and incarceration, in which I took every opportunity to underscore the basic premise that people in acute mental health crises ought not to be held in correctional facilities.

I’m grateful and honoured to be part of this conversation and call on all who care about human rights to speak up now, before we see more and other Soleimans whose lives are needlessly lost in preventable tragedies.
