WiCCD’s New SHE CARES Series Premieres with a Conversation with Kyla Lee about her Book, the Pinpoint Method of Cross-Examination August 17 2025 – My First Time Playing HOST!

In August of 2025, WiCCD launches our new Series – SHE CARES

The first video in this series is an interview of Kyla Lee by me!

Bit nerve-wracking this, the interviewer role – actually.

But the focus is on Kyla and her amazing book – the PINPOINT METHOD of Cross-Examination

Information about SHE CARES

Turning over a new page from our earlier WiCCD Asks: Who Cares?? Series, our new SHE CARES series beginning in August of 2025 explores emerging current issues that women in criminal defence want to learn more about.

From time to time we will also invite authors of legal publications to discuss their books on this program, with a focus on women in legal publishing.

This series will be hosted by members of WiCCD with a particular interest or expertise in the topic at hand. You’ll be meeting many among our governing Executive and membership at large in the process over the coming months and years.

Enjoy!

She Cares #50 About The Pinpoint Method of Cross-examination — A Conversation with Kyla Lee

In this episode of She Cares, we sit down with Kyla Lee, a criminal defence lawyer at Acumen Law, Vice President of Women in Canadian Criminal Defence (BC), and author of The Pinpoint Method of Cross-Examination (LexisNexis). Kyla shares her journey from defending driving offences to becoming a published legal author, and explains why cross-examination is a skill that lawyers need to deliberately study and practice. She introduces the “Pinpoint Method,” a practical framework she developed to help lawyers build more effective cross-examinations — from structuring questions, to anticipating witness types, to handling surprises in the courtroom. We also discuss:

  • Why cross-examination can be especially different for women litigators
  • How preparation and scripting sharpen advocacy skills
  • Strategies for dealing with difficult or unexpected witnesses
  • The importance of developing your own authentic style in trial practice

Kyla’s book is available here: https://store.lexisnexis.com/en-ca/pr…
