This is a very short video in which Ruby and I discuss our new book and how it supports the conference
Description on WiCCD’s YouTube Channel
This week we are joined by Anita Szigeti and Dr. Ruby Dhand to talk about their new book, the Canadian Anthology on Mental Health and the Law and the Upcoming Mental Disorder Law Conference.
WiCCD and LAMDA’s Mental Disorder and the Criminal Law Conference being held on Saturday April 26, 2025 is built around the criminal law chapters of this new advanced mental health law textbook, with many of the contributing authors presenting as speakers at our upcoming event.
The two co-authors, who edited this book along with Dena Bonnet and Justice Jill Presser, talk about the structure of the book, why it’s useful to law students and professors but also for practitioners, be they defence lawyers, Crowns or Judges. They also discuss the conference and how the book and the conference can support registrants together. There is also information about a time limited discount for the book associated with the conference. Legal writing and publishing is a passion Ruby and Anita share in their chosen field of expertise in mental health law and they’re here to discuss their latest contribution to the literature in the context of this important and unique conference. Any of us can expect to have a client experiencing serious mental health issues and may benefit from some chapter among the 50 in the book and/or from a number of the expert panels at the special conference devoted to this important topic of mental disorder in the criminal law context.
From Me Personally
I am grateful to Maya Shukairy and WiCCD for the opportunity to appear on the show to discuss this book -the wonderful new CAMHL Volume. While it is a beast, weighing in at nearly 1200 pages, it is also an absolute treasure trove of, well, treasures!
You’ll not find a better product out there in this area of mental health and the law.
This is our biggest, best and brightest book.
I am perhaps most proud of the cover – a photo I took on a family holiday to Budapest, Hungary in 2018.

If you can use the discount code associated with the upcoming conference (which is mentioned in the episode) — available for a limited time only until April 30, 2025 – the purchase becomes even more reasonable with 20% off.
I fairly guarantee you won’t regret owning this volume – in fact, you’ll marvel at its utility in both your day to day file work to help guide and orient your research and writing, but also in contributing to your general learning and gaining expertise in this special and rewarding practice area.
Hope you enjoy the book and the conference – we’ll see you there!!
