My Brother, Soleiman – Documentary on CBC Gem

On November 13 2024 this very moving documentary premiered on CBC Gem.

This documentary is very difficult to watch.

Soleiman’s death was tragic and preventable.

His own suffering and that of his family in the wake of his death are traumatizing to even hear about, let alone to live.

Enormous credit to Yusuf Faquri, Soleiman’s brother for his unparalleled advocacy on behalf of vulnerable persons like Soli and his tireless efforts to prevent another such tragic death.

Enormous respect for Yusuf, the Faqiri family, their lawyers Nader Hasan and Edward Marrocco at Stockwoods and the CBC Documentary film-makers who devoted enormous amounts of time and care to creating this permanent record to preserve Soleiman’s story.

My brief comments relate to the jails’ inability to cope with the crushing numbers of inmates who are experiencing serious mental health issues while incarcerated.
