CLA’s Spring Conference June 17 2023 & our MD Panel

June 17 is an anniversary of sorts for me personally. It has now been two years since a seminal event in my life that was marked in a very fitting way with an in-person conference at which I had the privilege of appearing on a panel together with our entire counsel group from our last visit to the Supreme Court of Canada (on March 14 2023) on the R. v. Kahsai intervention for the Empowerment Council.

Here we all are giving our talk on Brushing Up on Fitness, NCR and other Mental Disorder Law Considerations.

Panel Chair: Cassandra DeMelo and Panelists: Maya Shukairy, Carter Martell and Anita Szigeti

This conference was generously sponsored by LexisNexis Canada – who also offer a 20% discount on our latest book specifically for conference – and quite a few happy people were able to take physical copies of the book with them for a really great deal! Until June 30 you can still use CLA20 as a discount code at check-out to pick up a copy if you’re interested in or doing any work with this client group.

It was wonderful to see good friends in person at the conference – it’s been a very long stretch of relative and actual isolation for many of us who had not seen each other in person in a long time. Others, I was pleased to meet live for the first time, after getting to know them virtually throughout the pandemic.

You may even be able to access the video of our panel discussion on these important issues here:
