Happy 30th Anniversary to the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law’s ‘dumbest class ever.” – That is what our Dean at the time was overheard calling us, so we made T-shirts that said exactly that. I am looking for mine – I know I have it. We turned out OK, despite those inauspicious beginnings. 30 years of litigation flew by. What a privileged career I have had being the lawyer to clients who have moved me and cheered me with their resilience and spirit. Here is to 30 more in the trenches.

• Counsel to clients with serious mental health issues before administrative tribunals and on appeals
• Former Chair, current member of LAO’s mental health law advisory committee
• Educator, lecturer, widely published author (including 5 text books on consent and capacity law, Canadian civil mental health law, the criminal law of mental disorder, a law school casebook and a massive Anthology on all things mental health and the law)
• Thirty+ years’ experience as counsel to almost exclusively legally aided clients
• Frequently appointed amicus curiae
• Fearless advocate
• Not entirely humourless
