Thank YOU to All MH Lawyers of LAMDA

Apropos of nothing, a PSA of sorts to brighten the day of my cherished colleagues for the essentially thankless work they do without fear or hesitation. – A big shout-out to my mental health defence lawyer friends for the dedication, heart and stamina they pour into their work every single day in the trenches. After thinking about the issue of stigma for the last week, I realize the stigma of worthlessness around mental illness extends well and truly to those of us lawyers who represent those with mental health issues especially in forensics. We do not win the awards or get the jobs or the accolades. We are in fact too often marginalized in our profession. The stigma is pretty pervasive. But I am proud to say in the past 12 months I’ve had more professional success in liberating clients than in the previous 25 years combined. More appeals and hearings won, more people helped. We are in our prime here at Anita Szigeti Advocates thanks to the hard work of our staff including new associate Maya Kotob. And I am especially and always and truly proud to be part of the group of compassionate, intelligent, hard-working lawyers who are part of our advocacy and support group for lawyers, The Law and Mental Disorder Association, which is about to turn 2!! Onward and Upward Together!
