Beginning in January of 2017, we have founded a new Association to advance the rights of clients with mental disorder, both in criminal and civil justice systems. I am the founding President. Our five Vice-Presidents of the following Portfolios have now been identified. Jill Presser, Consent and Capacity Board proceedings and appeals. Mary Murphy, Criminal and Mental Health Courts, NCR/unfit accused. Thomas Whillier, Ontario Review Board and appeals. Keli Mersereau, Inquests, Policing and Custodial Concerns and last but not least, Jordan Weisz, Legal Aid Ontario Portfolio. I am proud to say LAMDA already has 55 active members in its inaugural month. Meetings are held last TUESDAY evening of each month at 5:30 at our offices, the University Law Chambers. New members welcome: email – to anita@asabarristers.com and joe@asabarristers.com! It’s gonna be a wonderful group with tremendous education and advocacy initiatives, serving as an umbrella organization for a host of others, which already all do fabulous work. Please join us if you are a lawyer in private practice and interested in mental health and mental disorder law. All are welcome.
Dear Anita,
I would like to ask you if you would know of a Family Law Lawyer, who represents low income clients, who have a verified cognitive disorder, and would be able to help someone under these circumstances? Please let me know.
Thank you.

hi Monica – you might want to try either Karen Lindsay-Skynner or Alla Koren though they are in the North part of the GTA – perhaps North York or Newmarket – both would do a great job -you can check for their contact info on the website of the Law Society of Upper Canada now known as Law Society of Ontario
Good luck
Anita
