Anita Szigeti is a true champion of the underdog, and I am honoured to endorse her for bencher. Throughout her career, Anita has fought selflessly for the most marginalized of our society, those with mental illnesses. Throughout, her hard work and dedication has worked to change the face of mental health law, from the board level right up to the Supreme Court of Canada.
This hard work and dedication is what is required to be a bencher, and it is what Anita will bring to the job. As a long-time advocate for legal aid, Anita will bring a unique voice to the Law Society, that of the certificate lawyer working in the trenches.
Not only a brilliant litigator, Anita also finds time to write, with the annual A Guide to Consent & Capacity Law in Ontario, now in its 11th edition, which she writes with her long-time law partner, D’Arcy Hiltz.
Anita has never done anything halfway: as a bencher, she will bring her passion, thoughtfulness and creativity to representing lawyers, and specifically clinic lawyers and those who accept legal aid certificates. I hope that you will consider voting for her to bring a fresh perspective to the Law Society of Upper Canada.
