Women in Canadian Criminal Defence (WiCCD)’s Intervention Journey Begins in 2026 with three cases in three months before the Supreme Court of Canada

The organization I founded in 2022 is not yet even five, but in our 4th year, has begun an intervention journey I couldn’t be more proud about. In a universe where older male counsel tend to get all the speaking parts in our country’s apex Court, WiCCD has sent 12 women to the SCC in the last three months alone in 2026.

Here is a Summary of our three outings to date with links to the corresponding blog entries

R v. Korduner – WiCCD’s First intervention in the SCC!! – Feb 17 2026

WiCCD Intervenes in the HAK appeal (“the appeal to end all appeals”) – March 26, 2026

WiCCD’s Third Intervention in the SCC Now in the Books! R v. Burke-Whittaker May 19 2026

Look at this group of incredible, accomplished women and their smiling faces!! Count them – 12!

I guess that number includes me as I snuck in to the first one as the Auntie-In-Law behind the scenes.
