It really was not a banner year for tulips, sadly.
We tried our best and my long-suffering spouse dutifully planted all the new bulbs I painstakingly ordered last fall, but this was just a bad season for them overall. The weather was too cold, too grey, too sullen for too long and I noticed a poor yield all ’round town, not just in our little front and postage back yards.
Even the glorious grounds at Osgoode Hall were low on the tulip front. Many of our earlier beauties simply did not return and others never bloomed to their full glory or stick around as long as they might have done in years before.
But, some managed to shine through anyway.
Here are some of this year’s note-worthy mentions.
Probably the most surprisingly beautiful blooms were two irises – the Dwarf Blue & the other big ones!
