Proposed Class Action Law Suit Against Waypoint for Over-Use of Prolonged Locked Seclusion

Proposed class action against Waypoint for prolonged use of locked seclusion. This is a very important and pervasive issue. While we recognize the devastating effect of segregation in prisons and jails, we as a society have failed to examine the use of locked seclusion in psychiatric facilities. The irony is that our NCR clients are routinely transferred to Waypoint because lower level of security in other institutions would require the patient / client’s ongoing seclusion. The whole idea of perimeter security at the maximum level is intended to provide more freedom. Waypoint denies the allegations of over-use of seclusion. The matter is before the Superior Court of Justice as a proposed class action law suit.
